On this day in Pro Wrestling history on April 2, 1989, Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling aired ‘NWA Clash Of The Champions VI: Ragin’ Cajun’ LIVE on TBS from the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The main event saw NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat defending his title against “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair in a ‘Two out of three falls match’.

• On This Day In Pro Wrestling History (April 2, 2023) – Old School WWF Tag Team Legend Passed Away

On this day in 2023, we lostOld School WWF Tag Team Legend Bushwhacker Butch (Real name: Robert Miller) at the age of 78 due to health issues.

Him and his fellow New Zealand Tag Team partner Luke Williams originally started as heels called ‘The Sheepherders’, touring several NWA terriroties such as Jim Crockett Promotions, UWF Mid-South Wrestling & NWA Pacific Northwest during the 80s.

In January 1989 they joined the World Wrestling Federation as comedy babyface Tag Team ‘The Bushwhackers’, and despite them never winning any WWF titles and never rising above mid-card level due to their comedy status, they were so over with the fans that they were wrestling on WWF TV for almost 8 years till they were let go in the fall of 1996.

In 2015 The Bushwhackers Butch & Luke were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by their former flagbearer (on NWA TV) “Johnny Ace” John Laurinaitis.

• On This Day In Pro Wrestling History (April 2, 2010) – Old School Wrestling Veteran Passed Away

On this day in 2010, we lost Old School Wrestling Veteran ‘Mortis’ aka Chris Kanyon (Real name: Christopher Klucsarits) at the age of 40 due to committing suicide by antidepressant overdose.

After working as a Jobber for the World Wrestling Federation in 1994, he joined Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling in 1995, where he formed the tag team “Men At work” with Mark Starr.

In 1997 he debuted a new gimmick called Mortis, where he was wearing an evil mask and was managed by James Vandenberg (aka Sinister Minister aka Father James Mitchell) and feuded with Glacier.

When Vince McMahon bought WCW in 2001, Kanyon was brought in and became a member of the WCW/ECW Alliance faction during the Invasion storyline, even becoming the WCW United States Champion and WWF World Tag Team Champion in the process.

He was released in early 2004 after not being used on TV for a while.
