Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day, involving Cody Rhodes, The Rock and Vince McMahon.
• According to the Wrestling Observer, Triple H reportedly intervened behind the scenes to keep Cody Rhodes in the WrestleMania 40 main event picture.
The plan that was initially proposed was an injury storyline for Cody on the February 2nd episode of SmackDown, involving The Bloodline attacking Rhodes.
The plan was to announce Roman Reigns vs. The Rock for WrestleMania XL during the Kickoff press conference, with Rhodes making a comeback at a later date. The understanding was that Rhodes wasn’t intended to be unfairly treated and would still have his match against Reigns eventually.
However, plans shifted due to CM Punk’s injury and Rollins needing an opponent for WrestleMania.
WWE made the decision to not have Reigns being involved in an angle to injure Rhodes, as it wouldn’t align with Rollins facing Rhodes in a match thereafter.

• During an episode of his Cafe De Rene, former WWE Superstar Rene Dupree revealed that Jackie Gayda rejected Vince McMahon’s advances during the Ruthless Aggression Era and got fired as a result.
Here’s what Dupree said:
“You remember when we had Charlie Haas on here, and he told a story about how Johnny Ace (John Laurnatis) fired him and Jackie the day they got back from their honeymoon?
Well, let’s just say Vince also made a pass at Jackie, which she declined. And you see what happened once her and Charlie got married.
If you listen to this story, it seems like if you don’t put Vince over and you don’t boost his ego, he gets mad at you and takes it out on your career.”
