• Original Plan For Sting In AEW
Sting’s tag team partner in AEW, Darby Allin, was interviewed on the newest episode of Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts’ and Diamond Dallas Page’s weekly ‘DDP Snake Pit’ podcast.
During this podcast, Darby revealed that Sting initially signed with Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling to do only cinematic matches, like (most famously) the Boneyard match and the Firefly Fun House match, that WWE produced for WrestleMania 36.
However, he later got the green light to do live matches in the ring.
Here’s what Allin had to say:
“When he first got in AEW, he originally signed on for just cinematic matches. Then when we were training at his house down in Texas, because he had a ring down there, I just straight up said to him, I was like, ‘Man, we don’t need to do cinematic matches. Let’s do this live.’
I said, ‘There’s nothing we have to hide here with your performance. It’s not like, ‘All right, cut. Let’s get another angle that makes that look better.’ You’re moving good and you’re kicking a$$.’
That’s when we got the green light to do me and Sting versus Ethan Page and Scorpio Sky at Double or Nothing. That was like his first match back live since the neck injury that he had in 2015.”
Sting made his AEW debut on December 2, 2020 and has mostly teamed up with Allin there since.
This Sunday at the All Out PPV, Sting will team up with Darby and Miro (fka Rusev in WWE) to take on The House Of Black in a 6-man tag team match.
