Original Plan For Tommaso Ciampa’s Return On RAW

On this week’s episode of RAW, former NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa returned from injury and accepted The Miz’s open challenge.

Ciampa went on to defeat the former 2-time WWE Champion.

According to Fightful Select, Triple H originally booked Ciampa to answer Seth Rollins’ open challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship.

However, Vince McMahon felt that Rollins’ program with Finn Balor needed more heat, so he nixed HHH’s plan and booked Balor to attack Rollins before the open challenge.

Fightful also added the following:

“We haven’t heard that this was done so Ciampa wouldn’t lose his first match back, as there was a plan in order that this match would have been a non-finish.”

WWE stars aren’t happy with the changes that Vince has been making to WWE’s TV shows as of late.

A lot of matches that WWE originally announced for last night’s SmackDown did not end up taking place.

This happened because Vince made a lot of changes to the script.

The following advertised matches did not take place:

– LA Knight vs. Butch vs. Santos Escobar

– Bayley vs. Shotzi with Bayley’s Women’s Money In The Bank ladder match spot on the line

– Baron Corbin vs. Cameron Grimes

Fightful reported the following about it:

“One talent even asked — ‘Did SmackDown get Vinced?’ Many of the matches that had been promoted ahead of the episode of SmackDown were adjusted and cut, and there were significant changes to the version of the show that existed Friday morning.”
