Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day, featuring RAW, AAA, and Tony Khan.
• After suffering losses to Rey Mysterio, Dragon Lee, and Penta, RAW Superstar Chad Gable announced that he would be stepping away to “conquer the dark arts of Lucha Libre.”
Though details on his plans remain unclear, the Wrestling Observer reported that Gable may be set to wrestle for AAA:
“I also have been told – I don’t know if this is true or not, I sure hope it is – that Chad Gable is actually going to be working some dates for AAA.”
If this turns out to be accurate, it would continue WWE’s trend of cross-promotion in 2025. Earlier this year, Omos and United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura appeared in Pro Wrestling NOAH, and WWE also secured a long-term deal with TNA.
• Tony Khan booked an amazing final run for WCW Legend Sting in AEW, where The Icon retired as an undefeated champion in the company at Revolution 2024.
Khan has now put Sting on his Mount Rushmore of greatest wrestlers ever, updating his previous list by replacing WWE Hall of Famer Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat.
Here’s what Khan said during an interview with Sports Illustrated:
“I would say the undefeated AEW World Tag Team Champion who retired (in 2024) at Revolution, Sting, Ric Flair, Steve Austin, and Bret Hart.”
Khan said Sting’s retirement is one of the favorite things he’s booked in All Elite Wrestling so far, and that he’d want the former World Champion to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated to represent his company.
