• Real Reason Why WWE Brought The Brand Split Back
WWE brought back the brand split back in 2016 which totally changed the landscape of the company. The Sports Business Daily reports that WWE brought the brand split back because ESPN showed interest in a television deal with the company. Turner broadcasting also wanted to feature WWE programming but did not do so.
ESPN met with Stephanie McMahon, Triple H, Michelle Wilson and George Barrios at least four times throughout 2017. ESPN already had too many sports deals so it was impossible to broadcast WWE programming at the same time for the whole year which caused WWE to back out from the deal.
ESPN also wanted to feature WWE shows on its ESPN+ streaming service at one point but the deal could not be reached because it was considered as a competition for the WWE Network.
