• Reason Behind Chris Jericho Not Being In The AEW Interim World Title Eliminator Series

As seen on last week’s episode of AEW Rampage, AEW World Champion CM Punk announced that he’s injured and will require surgery.

However, he won’t relinquish the Title, so an Interim AEW World Champion will be crowned later this month.

AEW announced an Interim World Championship Eliminator Series, which began on Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite.

Below are the details about this Eliminator Series:

– Wednesday’s Dynamite will kick off with a Battle Royale, with the winner advancing to the main event later that night to face #1 contender Jon Moxley.

– Winner of the Dynamite main event between Moxley & Battle Royale Winner will compete in the Interim World Title match at the AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door PPV on June 26th.

– At NJPW’s Dominion event on June 12, Hiroshi Tanahashi will face Hirooki Goto. The winner of this match will face the winner of the Dynamite main event in the Interim World Title match at Forbidden Door.

– When CM Punk is cleared to compete, he will face the Interim Champion in an AEW World Championship Unification Match.

The Battle Royale was won by Kyle O’Reilly, who lost to Jon Moxley in the main event.

However, the Battle Royale lacked star power and one of the names missing was former AEW World Champion Chris Jericho.

According to the Wrestling Observer, Jericho was on a family vacation this week, which he booked 3 months ago:

“The participants in the Battle Royale were weak and made the Interim Title idea be less than it should have.

The idea should be that only the top wrestlers on the roster should be in the Battle Royal.

But we didn’t have Adam Page, the former champion, who addressed it but no logical reason was given.

Malakai Black, who almost never loses, Chris Jericho (who had this week off as he had booked a family vacation for this week more than 3 months back but from a logical standpoint nobody would know or understand why he wasn’t in the Battle Royal), Samoa Joe, Scorpio Sky, Miro, Jungle Boy, Jeff Hardy (who has been pushed as both a single and a tag team guy), Pac, Penta, Wardlow and Brody King all should have been involved.”
