Heath Slater & Rhyno became the 1st ever SmackDown Tag Team Champion at Backlash 2016, which was the last SmackDown Live exclusive PPV. This led to Slater getting a contract with SmackDown Live.

A couple of weeks before, The Usos defeated American Alpha to become the #1 contenders for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles and will face Slater & Rhyno for the Titles at No Mercy 2016.

Current plan is for Slater & Rhyno to drop the Titles to The Usos. WWE officials are high on The Usos (who have turned heel now). With Usos winning the Titles, they are expected to feud with American Alpha for the Tag Team Titles of the blue brand.
