This match was ranked #3 in the Wrestling Observer’s “Most Disgusting Promotional Tactic” of 2022.

While addressing this criticism on his podcast, Flair revealed that he made $300,000 for this match:

“I don’t pay attention to that. You know what I got to say to that? I made $300,000. Go f**k yourselves. That’s right, I made $300,000 disgusting you! Disgust yourself for 300 grand and get in the shape that I got in. How about that, motherf**kers?”

Flair’s last match was also voted the 2nd worst match of the year, with the impromptu Vince McMahon vs. Pat McAfee match being ranked at #1.

Ric was okay with this choice and said he’d love to have another ‘Last Match’, where he properly hydrates himself:

“I’ll take that because it was the sh*ts. Here’s the deal, it was the sh*ts because I made a mistake with hydrating. Let me have it again! I’m serious, I think about it all the time.

Let me have the match again. The one thing I never thought about was to keep myself hydrated.”
