At last night’s CMLL show, MJF defeated Templario to retain the AEW American Championship. MJF tweeted the following about this match:
“The whole world is talking about the American Champion’s debut in CMLL representing our great nation! #ThankMeLater”
AEW wrestler Ricky Starks replied the following to MJF:
“I think they talking about you and Britt tbh.”
Starks deleted his tweet later. When a fan asked why he deleted it, he replied:
“The greatest works of art don’t always last forever.”
More information has emerged about the backstage incident involving MJF, his girlfriend and AEW interviewer Alicia Atout, and Britt Baker.
The Wrestling Observer first reported that Baker was suspended for one or two weeks and fined by AEW’s disciplinary committee. He mentioned that during the July 17th Dynamite, Baker allegedly made a comment about MJF. Atout was in the women’s locker room when this happened, and MJF confronted Baker about it.
This confrontation led to an investigation, with HR talking to people the following week. The Observer added that most people who were interviewed were sympathetic to Baker’s situation.
According to Fightful Select, Baker expressed frustration about MJF in the women’s locker room, with Atout present, which led to MJF finding out. While details are still somewhat unclear, there were reportedly confrontations between Atout and Baker, as well as between MJF and Baker.
Will Ospreay spoke with Baker at one point during the incident. Baker was upset with Atout for informing MJF about what was said in the locker room. Baker and MJF used to be close friends but had a falling out in the past year. HR became involved in the situation several weeks ago. Although Baker has appeared on TV since then, her suspension was legitimate.
Fightful noted that the argument led to MJF punching a wall before his hour-long match against Ospreay for the International Title.
