In a widely discussed spot on the March 19th episode of AEW Dynamite, Jon Moxley took a huge bump on to a spiked bat during a Street Fight against “The Rated-R Superstar” Cope (WWE Hall of Famer Edge) for Moxley’s AEW World Championship.
On a recent episode of his podcast, former WWE Champion Rob Van Dam criticized the spot, saying it was “not wrestling to him.”
Responding to a fan on X, who criticized the former ECW World Champion for using a similar bat named Janice during a match against Abyss in TNA Wrestling, Van Dam stated:
“Are you saying I loved this, it was my idea, or just that I did it? Someone who wasn’t Wrestling wrote this and I always said it was stupid. OK, what do you have now?
Do you think Moxley did what he was told or it was his idea and he loved it? When fans remind me how stupid they are, it makes me want to be a heel.
Watch any interview I’ve done since 2012 where I’ve talked about Abyss and Janice. It was ridiculous and I say so every time. I went over on my obligated dates and Janice killed me off for the rest of the year.
It wasn’t my idea. It wasn’t my expression of good Wrestling. It wasn’t the inmates running the prison.”
In response to another fan, Van Dam said the following:
“Some fans on here are another level of ignorant.
1-concussions are a part of my past, not my present or my future. No matter how much you don’t know.
2- i’ve always said the abyss spot when he murdered me with Janice was stupid. I’ve always said back in Ecw, the garbage matches took the place of Wrestling because they didn’t have Wrestling in them.
3-do you think a writer gave Moxley that spot and he thought it was stupid? I don’t.
I think YOU idiots are stupid, especially fans calling me a hypocrite when I’m as consistent as it comes.
I didn’t have Barbed wire matches. I never bladed in Ecw. Y’all are ridiculous for not being able to tell the difference.”
