During a recent interview with St. Louis Post-Dispatch, former WWE Tag Team Champion & 2015 Royal Rumble winner Roman Reigns talked about his WrestleMania 31 main event bout against Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, being booed despite being a babyface & more.
Below are the highlights from the interview:
On his WrestleMania 31 encounter with Brock Lesnar:
“Right off the get-go, I popped him and he scudded me up and ran me into the corner. I think right there I felt a rib shoot out of place. It was a struggle ever since that. From the get-go, I was hurt. He was throwing me around. That’s his thing. But I was throwing bombs at the end. He did his thing, and I did mine. I think you saw a couple of juggernauts go at it. We didn’t get the finish we had hoped, but it was a hell of a fight — the best fight I’ve ever been in.”
The day after WrestleMania 31:
“I felt terrible, and he looked terrible. It was a great mix, I say. His face looked like a lion had been all over it. My back, ribs and neck, they never felt that way. I felt the blows for months after that. Especially for me, we don’t have a week off. Brock gets to go back to his farm and do whatever the hell he does. I go right back to work. It was something that stuck with me for quite some time, but I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”
On being booed despite being a babyface:
“I mean, they are booing me. It happens. I’ve heard it really loud. I’ve heard none at all. I’ve heard really loud cheers. That’s the great part: It’s a different town, a different crowd. At the end, we are going through a 20- to 30-minute storytelling match here. You can boo me all you want in the beginning of the match, but if you ride that rollercoaster with us, you are gonna enjoy it. It’s gonna be whatever it is, but I guarantee you are going to enjoy the finish of the match and the whole story. You paid your money. Enjoy yourself. Have a great time. Take yourself out of your regular life and just enjoy it.”
