Below are a couple of top WWE & AEW news stories of the day, featuring Roman Reigns and Rey Fenix.

• Roman Reigns is set to return to TV action. While Reigns typically reserves matches for Premium Live Events, his last TV match was on December 30, 2022, when he and Sami Zayn lost to John Cena and Kevin Owens on SmackDown.

Dr. Chris Featherstone reports that Reigns is scheduled to compete on the debut episode of RAW on Netflix, airing January 6, 2025, from the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.

Although his opponent is unconfirmed, ongoing tensions with Solo Sikoa and the New Bloodline suggest it could involve a Bloodline-related storyline.

CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins is also expected to take place on this episode.

• Rey Fenix’s contract situation with AEW has sparked controversy, as the company extended his deal by nearly a year to account for time missed due to injury. This extension delays Fenix’s expected reunion with Penta El Zero Miedo as the Lucha Bros, who are rumored to be WWE-bound, given WWE’s interest in signing them.

Fenix recently responded to a report by Dr. Chris Featherstone, confirming allegations of mistreatment by a doctor during his recovery and calling the report the most accurate commentary on his situation.

This prompted surprise within WWE, as noted by WrestleVotes, with WWE staff reportedly planning to investigate the claims further:

“Hearing that there were those in the WWE that were surprised with the Rey Fenix tweets. Not to say that they’re not interested anymore, I’m sure that didn’t change, but there were some eyebrows raised over those tweets, especially if you’re going to put that out there publicly.

WWE is going to do some digging into what’s going on. So my phone started to buzz a little bit afterwards about just the surprise from a few WWE staffers that really didn’t have a pulse on to what may or may not be going on over there with Rey Fenix. So it raised eyebrows throughout the whole wrestling world, and it did, certainly, you know, in Stanford.”

As we noted earlier, Fenix has deleted his negative tweets about AEW after they received 8.5 million views.
