Ronda said the following about coming out of retirement:
“Been waiting so long to announce this. Me and Gina Carano are gonna throw down in the biggest superfight in women’s combat sport history, and we’re partnering with the fighter-first promoter, MVP, as well as the baddest streamer on the planet, Netflix. This is for all MMA fans past, present, and future.”
Carano said:
“Ronda came to me and said there is only one person she would make a comeback for, and it’s been her dream to make this fight happen between us. She thanked me for opening up doors for her career and was respectful in asking for this fight to happen.
This is an honor. I believe I will walk out of this fight with the win, and I anticipate it will not come easy, which I welcome. This is as much for Ronda and I as it is for the fans and mixed martial arts community. What a time to be alive.”
Rousey last fought in 2016 and has a record of 12-2. Carano last fought in 2009 and has a record of 9-1.
• Bad News For Bianca Belair Fans
It looks like The Grandest Stage of Them All will be missing one of its most dominant stars this year. Bianca Belair might not return for a match at WrestleMania 42 following the news that she underwent surgery on her hand on February 16.
The EST of WWE has been battling a severe finger injury since WrestleMania 41. During a Triple Threat match against Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY for the Women’s World Championship, Belair’s knuckle joint was effectively crushed. While she initially tried to work through the issue and avoid a long hiatus, the injury proved too complex for standard rehab. By opting for the procedure this week, the recovery timeline has effectively slammed the door on a Las Vegas appearance this April.
According to WrestleVotes Live on Fightful Select, the timing of the surgery makes a return within the next two months medically impossible. This creates a massive void in the SmackDown women’s division, particularly as Belair was widely rumored to be the preferred opponent for WWE Women’s Champion Jade Cargill in what many considered a dream match.
As reported earlier, names like Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton are now being discussed as opponents for Cargill at WrestleMania 42.
