Ruthless Aggression Era Flashback – Episode 1: Stephanie McMahon Signs The Undertaker To SmackDown!

“Ruthless Aggression Era Flashback” is a brand new feature here on WWFOldSchool.com, where we look back at some of the great moments from WWE’s Ruthless Aggression Era.

Ruthless Aggression Era began after the famous Attitude Era, and lasted till 2007. This is the first episode of this feature, so get ready to travel back to the not so old yet good days of the WWE!

On the August 29th, 2002 edition of SmackDown, Stephanie McMahon signed The Undertaker to the blue brand. The Undertaker was a part of the Raw brand prior to this. Stephanie asked Dawn Marie to inform Eric Bischoff to closely watch the main event of the show as one of the Raw Superstars was coming to their brand (it wasn’t revealed that she signed Taker until the main event).

The main event was a #1 Contender’s Triple Threat match between Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle & The Undertaker. There was a point during the match where Benoit locked-in the Crippler Crossface & Angle locked-in the Ankle Lock on Taker at the same time, but Angle broke it as the referee was confused as to who would win if Taker tapped out.

The match ended with Taker picking up the win and becoming the #1 contender for the WWE Championship after hitting the Last Ride Powerbomb on Benoit. You can watch this great Ruthless Aggression Era moment below:
