Brian Pillman Jr. (son of WWF/WCW Legend Brian Pillman) was removed from the AEW roster recently, and PWInsider has now confirmed that he has officially left the company.
Pillman Jr. signed with the company 3 years ago and his deal expired, and Tony Khan decided not to renew it.
Brian’s most high-profile feud in AEW was against MJF (who is the current AEW World Champion) in 2021.
He used to team up with Griff Garrison, together known as The Varsity Blonds, with Julia Hart as their manager.
During an interview on Rene Dupree’s podcast last year, Brian said his team up Griff suffered when AEW took Julia away from them:
“I mean, its pretty plain as day what happened, you know what I mean. As soon as we lost her, we kind of lost our edge and our spark that made us a good group, a babyface group that could have got over, you know.
A lot of what we were going to do with some different spots with her had a lot to do with her cheerleading background and playing to her strengths. But somebody came in and decided that they would do better with their group and then that’s just how it goes, you know.
I definitely wasn’t happy with it to be quite honest, but it is what it is. It’s not my show. It’s business but I thought maybe that probably what really stopped us from really seeing the true potential The Varsity Blonds was we lost her before we even got going.”
Brian’s last match in AEW took place on May 13th 2023, at an AEW House Rules event (untelevised House Show), where he teamed up with Brock Anderson (son of Arn Anderson) to lose to The Gunns (sons of Billy Gunn).
