Former WWE Superstar Shane Helms, best known to fans as the high-flying, comedic superhero ‘The Hurricane’, has revealed that a potential return to the ring in his iconic guise might not be entirely out of the question. Currently working as a producer for WWE, Helms recently shared a humorous anecdote that suggests the company has considered bringing back the popular character.
Speaking on the Gabby AF podcast, the host suggested to Helms that a return to in-ring action could be a future possibility. Helms seemed receptive to the idea, stating, “Yeah maybe it is. I’m starting to get back into spandex shape now. For a while, it wasn’t even an option.” This admission hints that Helms is actively working towards being physically ready for a potential comeback.
Adding fuel to the speculation, Helms recounted a funny exchange with WWE official John Cone. “They actually wanted me to do something, you know John Cone, I’m sure you know of him, and he called me about an appearance where I’d be dressed as the Hurricane, head to toe,” Helms explained. The request, however, came at a time when fitting into his old costume was a significant challenge.
Helms humorously detailed his reaction to Cone’s proposition: “And I was like, ‘John, you see me at TV every week. You know I can’t fit in that damn outfit.’ It was actually hilarious. I told him, ‘Give me six months to get in spandex shape and then call me again.’ Because spandex don’t lie. That stuff tells the truth. Had me out there looking like a can of busted biscuits.’”
Fans last saw Shane Helms don the mask and cape as The Hurricane during the 2021 Royal Rumble, where he enjoyed a memorable albeit brief appearance in the match.
