Last Friday, WWE released over 100 employees due to the UFC merger to form TKO Group Holdings. Later that day, The Rock returned to WWE programming on SmackDown.
Former WWF/WCW writer Vince Russo wasn’t happy about this and said the following on Legion Of RAW:
“You know what was really sad that nobody brought up? When was the last time we saw Rock on WWE TV? 4 Years ago. They bring this dude back the same day they fire 100 employees.
I’m like, ‘What did they pay Rock?’ Like, literally, could they have paid those employees for a year? The timing of that. We’re cutting the fat, and we’re firing 100 people, but we’re gonna pay Rock.
God knows how much money [he took] to make an appearance.”
As we reported before, The Rock’s return to WWE after 4 years on SmackDown drew over 100 million views combined on all Social Media platforms.
After this, WWE officially reported that Rock’s return drew over 103 million views.
This led to The Great One posting the following:
“Wow thank you so much WWE Universe. It’s always my honor and privilege to come home.
I’ll raise a glass to breaking records together 🥃🔥🔥
Thank you for the unforgettable memory (and insane crowd reaction)
No place like home ❤️
~ people’s champ ✊🏾”
