The Rock & WWE Had A Falling Out Before WrestleMania 40, Says Released Wrestler

In the weeks leading up to WrestleMania 40, WWE was working hard to ensure that The Rock was in peak form for his long-awaited return to the ring. To help with this, the company enlisted the former NXT faction Gallus—Wolfgang, Mark Coffey, and Joe Coffey—to assist in preparing the Attitude Era icon for his in-ring comeback. However, as Wolfgang revealed in an interview with Cultaholic, things didn’t go entirely according to plan.

The Rock’s Training Was Delayed Due to Miscommunication

Wolfgang detailed the experience and revealed that the original plan involved several days of ring work with The Rock ahead of WrestleMania XL. Unfortunately, that schedule was derailed by what seemed to be a logistical misfire between the Hollywood star and WWE’s travel team.

“There’s a whole backstory that we arrived on Monday night. Tuesday was supposed to be day one and then Wednesday was day two and Thursday if we needed it,” Wolfgang explained. “We got there on the Monday, on the Tuesday I don’t know what happened and I don’t want to start any rumors here, but there was a bit of a falling out about, ‘You come pick me up in your private plane. No, no no, you come pick me up. I’ll be here, you come get me.’”

Wolfgang suggested the situation might have stemmed from some ego clashing behind the scenes. “To be honest, I think it was just someone big leaguing the other one. I think it was a case of, ‘No, I don’t drive to you. You collect me.’ That’s the way I like to think it was.”

The Rock’s Delay Turned Into A Mini Vacation for Gallus

While the failed day of training may have caused some chaos in the WWE schedule, it wasn’t all bad news for Gallus. Wolfgang shared that the unexpected delay gave the trio a rare chance to enjoy themselves in Los Angeles.

“So Tuesday was scrapped. They just couldn’t get off the runway, they said there was a problem with the plane. And then myself, Mark and Joe just got a free day in Los Angeles where we just got to go be tourists. Hit the gym, went down the pier. It was a fantastic day,” Wolfgang recalled.

The Rock’s Preparation and Gallus’ Final WWE Chapter

Despite the hiccups, The Rock went on to perform at WrestleMania 40, where he teamed with Roman Reigns and defeated Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. Rock pinned Cody to secure the win.

As for Gallus, their chapter in WWE came to an end a year later. All three members—Wolfgang, Mark Coffey, and Joe Coffey—were released by WWE on May 2, 2025.
