The Sandman is one of the biggest names in ECW history. He won the ECW World Heavyweight Championship a couple of times and cemented himself as one of the most extreme wrestlers ever to step foot inside the ring.
He also competed at WrestleMania 23 as part of The ECW Originals (Rob Van Dam, Tommy Dreamer, Sabu and The Sandman) to defeat The New Breed (Elijah Burke, Marcus Cor Von, Matt Striker and Kevin Thorn) in an 8-Man Tag Team match.
The Sandman got paid $40,000 for his WrestleMania appearance by WWE.
AEW has featured several ECW Legends on their programming this year, including Sabu, Jerry Lynn and Rob Van Dam.
Speaking during the K & S WrestleFest Virtual Signing, The Sandman was asked if he’d be the next ECW Legend to show up in Tony Khan’s company.
Below is what he replied:
“I’ve never talked to anybody in AEW, just so you know. Then again, I don’t even know if they’d have my phone number. I’m so far out of the business. It’s crazy.”
“Jungle Boy” Jack Perry is scheduled to retire the FTW Championship on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, so it’s possible that AEW is ending the Perry vs. ECW Legends storyline.
