Below are a couple of top AEW & WWE news stories of the day, featuring Tony Khan and Meiko Satomura.

• AEW President Tony Khan is known for his passion for professional wrestling, but some fans believe his comments can negatively impact his company. Recently, Khan claimed that he receives more criticism than anyone else in the wrestling industry.

A few months back, Khan sparked controversy by likening WWE to Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood executive known for numerous scandals and criminal convictions related to $exual misconduct. This is just one of many instances where Khan has faced backlash for his remarks.

During the ROH Death Before Dishonor media call, Khan was asked about the pay-per-view lineup. He expressed frustration, saying he feels he receives more criticism than other wrestling promoters. Khan believes that if other companies announced 5 or 6 matches for a pay-per-view, they wouldn’t face as much negative feedback as he does. He feels that no matter what he does in wrestling, he is criticized more heavily than others, even for minor actions like sneezing.

Khan said, “I’ll be honest, if other companies announce 6 matches for a PPV or even 5 matches for a PPV, I don’t think they’d get as much stick as I do. And I think pretty much anything I do in wrestling I get more stick than anybody else, per capita, for just about anything I do. If I sneeze people are mad at me.”

• It looks like John Cena won’t be the only WWE wrestler that will retire in 2025.

Tokyo Sports has reported that Meiko Satomura is considering retiring from in-ring competition, with an official announcement expected soon. Sources say that Satomura has been contemplating her future as a wrestler this year, though no specific date for her retirement has been set. April 2025 will mark the 30th anniversary of her wrestling debut.

The report also mentions that Satomura has expressed interest in staying involved in the wrestling industry even after ending her in-ring career. She returned to in-ring action during WWE’s ongoing Japan tour.

Satomura joined WWE in 2021 as both a wrestler and coach, and she has won the NXT UK Women’s Championship. Alongside her WWE responsibilities, she has been running the Sendai Girls’ Pro Wrestling promotion, which she co-founded in 2006.

She has also wrestled matches in WCW back in 1996 and 1997.
