• Tony Khan Responds To A Fan Saying Jon Moxley As The #1 Contender In AEW Doesn’t Make Any Sense

As seen on AEW Rampage, AEW World Champion CM Punk announced that he’s injured and will require surgery.

However, he won’t relinquish the Title, so an Interim AEW World Champion will be crowned later this month.

AEW has now announced an Interim World Championship Eliminator Series, which will begin on Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite.

Below are the details about this Eliminator Series:

– Wednesday’s Dynamite will kick off with a Battle Royale, with the winner advancing to the main event later that night to face #1 contender Jon Moxley.

– Winner of the Dynamite main event between Moxley & Battle Royale Winner will compete in the Interim World Title match at the AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door PPV on June 26th.

– At NJPW’s Dominion event on June 12, Hiroshi Tanahashi will face Hirooki Goto. The winner of this match will face the winner of the Dynamite main event in the Interim World Title match at Forbidden Door.

– When CM Punk is cleared to compete, he will face the Interim Champion in an AEW World Championship Unification Match.

Prior to the announcement of Punk’s injury, Wardlow was the #1 Contender, but Jon Moxley was soon shifted to rank #1 after the news of Punk’s injury.

AEW President Tony Khan took to Twitter to explain why Moxley is the #1 Contender right now:

“Jon Moxley is the only AEW wrestler with 7+ 2022 singles bouts undefeated on TV (Dynamite/Rampage/Battle of the Belts) + PPV (Revolution/Double or Nothing).

(7-0. Moxley + Anthony Ogogo only undefeated 7-0 records in AEW in 2022, Moxley ranked higher based on opponents quality.)”

Khan then had the following exchange with fans:

Fan #1: Wardlow better record I fear.

Tony: Incredible record but not undefeated.

Fan #2: Wardlow was number one though? I don’t know it just doesn’t make any sense.

Tony: While he’s been undefeated all year, Mox recently was in tag matches more & inactive in singles since his iconic match in Boston vs Wheeler Yuta until this week, & then he returned to singles & won this week’s AEW Dynamite main event to go to 7-0, pushing him back to the top spot.

Fan #3: But TK online Wardlow was ranked ahead of MOX. Was that an error??

Tony: No, that was before Moxley returned to singles wrestling competition on Dynamite, winning Wednesday’s main event. Mox is undefeated in 2022 singles matches, but had wrestled in 7 consecutive tag/multi-man matches since his April win over Yuta in Boston until his win on Wednesday.
