Below are a couple of top AEW & WWE news stories of the day.
• Top AEW Star Advised To Retire From Wrestling
Bryan Danielson’s full-time wrestling career might be done, but a part-time comeback isn’t completely off the table.
Danielson himself stated that the chances of him wrestling again are “probably 50/50.” However, AEW commentator Tony Schiavone thinks it’s time for the former AEW World Champion to retire for good.
On the ‘What Happened When’ podcast, Schiavone expressed his concern, saying, “The body has had enough, man. After every match, I would go to him and say, ‘Are you okay?’ He’d go, ‘Yeah,’ but I know that he’s hurting. I know that he’s hurting and every time he wrestles, I just think, ‘God, I hope it’s not the last time.'”
Danielson’s most recent match was at AEW WrestleDream in October 2024. He lost the AEW World Championship to Jon Moxley, marking Moxley’s fourth title reign.
Speaking with Fightful, Bryan explained, “My priority is my health. I think the odds of me wrestling again, ever, are probably 50/50 at this point. My desire is to not get neck surgery, and so if I could live comfortably without neck surgery, but it means that I wouldn’t get to wrestle again, I think I’d be okay with that trade-off.”
Danielson’s neck problems are a result of a past surgery that messed up his spine, causing permanent changes to his upper back. He had considered stem cell treatment as an alternative to another surgery, but there’s no confirmation if he pursued that option.
Schiavone emphasized that Bryan has already endured enough physical strain and should focus on his family. “He wants to see his kids grow up, so why take the chance?” Tony questioned. “What if that one more time something goes wrong and then he can’t live out his final years the way he wants to with his family?”
