Below are some top AEW news stories of the day, involving MJF and Ric Flair.

• During an interview with Sports Illustrated, AEW International Champion MJF put himself over and talked about how important he is.

Here’s what the former AEW World Champion said:

“I’ve been carrying this company for 5 years on my back. People need MJF. It’s that simple. This company needs MJF. Fortunately, they’ve got me. What’s this company without MJF? It’s boring. This is the most people have talked about my company in months. Thank me later. If you’re not going to give me my just due now, you’ll have to when it’s all said and done.

I’m the most interesting man in professional wrestling. I’ve been that way since I laced up a pair of boots. There are two types of people: the ones who admit I’m probably the greatest overall package in the history of this sport, and then there are people who want to pretend they know better. They won’t admit what’s right in front of them.

For years, people said John Cena was not the GOAT. They said Randy Orton was boring. Those people actually exist in the world. Those are the type of the people who see mediocrity when they look in the mirror, and you can quote me on that.”

• All Elite Wrestling is known for allowing intense and violent spots in their matches, but not every idea makes the cut. AEW President Tony Khan rejected a potentially dangerous spot proposed by Eddie Kingston.

Drawing inspiration from the infamous 1980s spot between Ric Flair and Terry Funk, where Funk used a plastic bag to suffocate Flair, Kingston wanted to use a similar tactic in his 2022 feud with Chris Jericho.

In an interview with The Ringer, Kingston revealed his repeated attempts to get approval for the spot. He said, “Trust me, I know how Turner is scared about that because I’ve asked about the plastic bag several times. It was always walking in and Tony (Khan) going, ‘We’re not doing the plastic bag.’”

This decision highlights AEW’s balance between delivering intense action and maintaining safety standards for its performers.
