Below are a couple of top AEW & WWE news stories of the day.

• Top Star Says AEW Is Closing In On WWE In Just 6 Years

Will Ospreay believes AEW is closing in on WWE after just 6 years, and he isn’t shy about saying it.

While speaking with 3NT Wrestling, the AEW star said he doesn’t mind when people compare AEW to WWE. He sees it as part of the business, especially since WWE has been the biggest company in the industry for so long.

“Yo, I’ll be honest with you — no. I’ll be brutally honest with you. Anytime people make comparisons, I understand. Because we’re in a constant comparison sport. WWE has been the heads of the heads for generations upon generations,” Ospreay said.

Ospreay added that AEW has already made major progress in a short time. “Bro — we’re here. We’ve been here for 6 years, and we’re on their tail. No matter what anyone says, we are on their tail.”

He also gave credit to WWE for their success but made it clear he believes AEW offers a better product inside the ring.

“But when it comes right down to it — I will scream this from the top of my lungs — they are great at what they do. They are filling houses. They are on fire. But when the bell rings? Are you as good as us? No,” he said.

This follows Ospreay’s recent comments where he claimed AEW outshines WWE in every aspect, even with great wrestlers like Randy Orton and Gunther on WWE’s roster.

• Top Star Is Taking Time Off From WWE

Drew McIntyre will be stepping away from WWE for an unknown length of time, according to a new report from PWInsider.

The report states that McIntyre is taking “an extended period of rest” after dealing with injuries during recent shows. There was also backstage talk about him needing time off.

Although there have been rumors about a possible role in Hollywood, PWInsider notes that McIntyre’s absence is related to personal time off, not acting.

At tonight’s Saturday Night’s Main Event, McIntyre lost to Damian Priest in a Steel Cage Match. Priest hit McIntyre with the Con-Chair-To and then walked out the cage door to win.
