Trick Williams isn’t sugarcoating his feelings after his 99-day NXT Championship reign ended at New Year’s Evil. In a chaotic triple threat match against Oba Femi and Eddy Thorpe, Williams fell short, losing his title to the powerhouse Femi.
The match’s turning point came when Oba Femi, already making waves in NXT with his dominant in-ring presence, capitalized on a critical mistake by Williams.
After delivering a Trick Shot knee to Femi, Williams inadvertently collided with Thorpe’s chair, leaving himself vulnerable. Femi seized the opportunity, delivering a devastating powerbomb to pin Williams and claim the title.
The build-up to the match was equally dramatic. Oba Femi had admitted to taking out Eddy Thorpe backstage, momentarily giving Williams a potential advantage. However, it wasn’t enough to overcome Femi’s sheer strength and determination.
In a candid interview with Mike Jones of DC101, Williams reflected on the loss and praised his opponent while maintaining confidence in his own abilities:
“Being real, calling a spade a spade, as much as I’m not happy about what happened, Oba is the real deal. He is the most dominant presence in the ring that I’ve faced thus far. There is only one Oba Femi. The truth is, also, there is only one Trick Williams.”
Williams’ reign as NXT Champion lasted 99 days, during which he successfully defended the title three times.
While this marks a setback for Williams, his confidence and charisma suggest this is far from the end of his championship aspirations. Fans can likely expect the dynamic Trick Williams to regroup and return with his sights set on reclaiming gold.
