A lot of matches that WWE originally announced for Friday’s SmackDown did not end up taking place.
This happened because Vince McMahon made a lot of changes to the script.
The following advertised matches did not take place:
– LA Knight vs. Butch vs. Santos Escobar
– Bayley vs. Shotzi with Bayley’s Women’s Money In The Bank ladder match spot on the line
– Baron Corbin vs. Cameron Grimes
According to Fightful Select, WWE stars aren’t happy about the changes Vince McMahon has been making to the shows at the last minute:
“One talent even asked — ‘Did SmackDown get Vinced?’ Many of the matches that had been promoted ahead of the episode of SmackDown were adjusted and cut, and there were significant changes to the version of the show that existed Friday morning.”
Bayley tweeted the following about her match with Shotzi getting canceled:
“Card subject to change..
Sorry.
Sorry you couldn’t watch me beat dat a$$.”
According to BWE, Chief Content Officer Triple H and WWE CEO Nick Khan weren’t happy about the changes either:
“It was a few changes that happened. Some wrestlers didn’t like the Vince McMahon interferences in changing things. But it should be noted that Nick Khan and Triple H didn’t appreciate the outcome of SmackDown as it looked bad all over. Big meeting happening tomorrow about this.”
Speaking of Vince making changes, he also made a change to RAW last week.
Triple H originally booked Tommaso Ciampa to answer Seth Rollins’ open challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship.
However, Vince felt that Rollins’ program with Finn Balor needed more heat, so he nixed HHH’s plan and booked Balor to attack Rollins before the open challenge.
