The Rock’s first proper match in 11 years (not counting his 6-second impromptu match against Erick Rowan at WrestleMania 32) will take place in the main event of WrestleMania 40 – Night 1.
He will team up with WWE Champion Roman Reigns to take on the 2024 Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes and World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins.
WWE is promoting this match as the biggest tag team match of all time, as Chief Content Officer Triple H tweeted the following:
“The biggest tag team match ever… at the biggest WrestleMania ever. The Rock & Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins is happening LIVE in Philly at WrestleMania XL.”
If Rhodes and Rollins win this match, then all members of The Bloodline will be barred from ringside during Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match against Reigns on Night 2. However, if Reigns and Rock win, then the championship match will be Bloodline’s rules.
According to PWScoops, The Rock recently pitched the idea of him facing The Tribal Chief for the Title at WrestleMania 41 and having one more run as champion, but Triple H shot it down:
“Sources reveal that around Elimination Chamber, The Rock pushed for a match against Roman Reigns for the Undisputed Championship at WrestleMania 41.
Additionally, he sought to lead The Bloodline or secure one last championship run, which Triple H opposed.”
As we have reported before, Cody is expected to defeat Roman to finally finish the story in the main event of WrestleMania XL.
That’s most likely the reason why Triple H shot down Rock’s pitch to extend Roman’s title reign until WrestleMania 41 in 2025.
