WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus addressed her past confrontation with John Morrison following their tag team match at WrestleMania 27 in 2011. During the event, Trish teamed up with Morrison and Snooki to defeat LayCool and Dolph Ziggler.
However, after their victory, Morrison ignored her gesture to raise his hand in celebration. The same behavior occurred the next night on RAW after another victory.
Speaking on Inside the Ropes, Trish clarified her perspective on the incident, explaining that her involvement in WrestleMania 27 was part of WWE’s strategy to promote the Tough Enough show. She emphasized that she wasn’t there to take anyone’s spot but to fulfill the role assigned to her.
Here’s what Trish said:
“So, I was the Tough Enough trainer at the time, and I had this match the night after Mania. Apparently, John had an issue, feeling like my involvement was taking someone else’s spot. That’s a tough spot for anyone to be in—pardon the ‘Tough Enough’ pun—but I found myself in the middle of it. Snooki was on one side, he was on the other, and I got stuck right in the middle.
It really got blown up, with people making headlines about it and acting like it was a huge deal. And sure, it wasn’t exactly cool what happened, so maybe it deserved some attention. But I think John just felt like I was taking a spot that belonged to someone else.
I’m not sure who he meant—there’s no specific name I can think of—but honestly, I wasn’t taking anyone’s spot. WWE gave me that position because we were promoting Tough Enough, which was a WWE property airing after WrestleMania. That was the purpose. I was just there to do my job.
I even told him, ‘Let’s be honest here—I’m not taking anyone’s spot. This is their way of promoting a TV show, and I happen to be a part of that. That’s it.’ But by acting the way he did, he took away a moment from the fans.
And ultimately, isn’t that what it’s all about? Giving fans those moments? John and I were teaming up, and we actually won the rematch on RAW the next night. Fans were excited to see two characters who wouldn’t normally cross paths come together—it’s always fun when that happens.
So, for him to take away from that excitement over personal feelings was, frankly, a little silly. I told him as much, and we sorted things out. No hard feelings now—we’re totally fine.”
At the time of the incident, Morrison was in a relationship with fellow WWE wrestler Melina, and his actions were reportedly influenced by his belief that Melina should have been in Trish Stratus’ spot at WrestleMania 27. Morrison viewed Trish’s return after years away as taking opportunities from active roster members he felt were more deserving.
However, this perspective was flawed in terms of WWE’s booking logic. Melina was a heel at the time, while Morrison and Stratus were babyfaces, so having Melina in that spot wouldn’t have aligned with the storyline dynamics.
