WWE quietly removed a controversial comment made by Carlito during the October 21st episode RAW from Peacock.

During the original airing, Carlito entered Adam Pearce’s office after Kairi Sane and IYO SKY exited and remarked, “I gotta learn Chinese”. The backlash was immediate, as both Sane and SKY are Japanese, leading fans to criticize the remark as insensitive.

In the Peacock version, WWE edited the scene to omit the line. The segment now cuts to a close-up of Pearce as Damage CTRL leaves and Carlito enters, with only Carlito’s hair briefly visible before the dialogue resumes with Pearce asking what Carlito wants.

Sources within WWE revealed the line was not scripted, and one staff member expressed disbelief it was said, emphasizing that it wasn’t part of the planned segment.

Internally, the remark caused concern, particularly given IYO SKY’s history of facing offensive comments, such as being taunted with “go back to China” chants from audience members.

Though no word of disciplinary action against Carlito has surfaced, WWE’s decision to remove the line indicates that the company is treating the matter seriously.

It should be noted that the Wrestling Observer reported that IYO and Kairi had no problem with what Carlito said. They saw it as something Carlito’s character would say:

“I hate to even say this because people will think I’m defending the company or whatever but I was told by the same person that told me the Carlito line was an adlib that IYO and Kairi did not have a problem with it.

They saw it as him playing an idiot and that was that. That doesn’t necessarily mean Carlito will not be punished for this but that’s the story.”
