Below are some top WWE & AEW news stories of the day, featuring Liv Morgan, Mercedes Mone, and Josh Mathews.
• Truth About Rumors Of Mercedes Mone Having Creative Control
There have been rumors about TBS Women’s Champion Mercedes Moné having creative control in All Elite Wrestling, but sources say that isn’t true.
Fightful Select reports that people within both AEW and NJPW denied she has any creative control. One source said they’ve never even heard of her asking for it. Another source, who works closely with both companies, said, “she hasn’t turned down losing, because losing hasn’t even been broached. Both companies had plans to push her heavily.”
Sources believe the talk about creative control is mostly part of her on-screen character.
One AEW source also noted that Mercedes changed the finish to her NJPW match with Willow Nightingale on the spot so she could lose, after realizing she had suffered a serious injury.
• Update On Whether Liv Morgan Will Be Stripped Of Her Championship By WWE
Liv Morgan will be off WWE TV for a short time as she films Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo, a movie by Neon Productions. PWInsider reports that filming is taking place in Japan and Morgan is already there.
Despite her absence, she will not be stripped of her championship. Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez will remain WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. Sources say Morgan is expected back within a month, possibly sooner.
Morgan and Rodriguez are currently in their fourth reign as champions together. Rodriguez is a five-time tag champion overall (one reign being with Aliyah) and previously held the NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles twice with Dakota Kai.
The duo briefly lost the WWE Women’s Tag Titles to Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria at WrestleMania 41 but won them back the next night on RAW.
