Update On How WWE Feels About CM Punk’s Drawing Power

WrestlePurists reported yesterday that CM Punk, who returned to WWE at Survivor Series 2023, is looking to restructure his contract with the company, expressing a desire to stay with WWE “forever”:

“I believe [his deal is for 3 years]. I can tell you right now that he is in the process of trying to get his deal restructured from a money and years standpoint.

Punk’s legitimate stance right now is if all goes well he will never leave. That’s his legitimate standpoint. He wants to be here forever is the actual word he used.

Basically, he wants this to work out, he wants to get paid, and then he wants, when it’s time to slow it down, to slow it down and just run NXT.”

PWInsider gave the following update on this situation today:

“Numerous WWE sources, including one very high up internally, have confirmed that Punk and WWE signed a three-year deal the night he returned in Chicago at Survivor Series 2023. The deal would carry him through November 2026, not counting any time tacked on for when he was out rehabbing his Royal Rumble injury.

Any claims that the initial deal is coming up or that they signed a short-term deal and knew they would be discussing a new deal at this point, is 100% incorrect.

We are told that WWE are the ones who approached Punk about working out a new deal. Multiple WWE sources confirmed they are seeking to lock in what was described as a ‘bigger’ deal (two sources used that terminology) and stated it was something the company initiated, not Punk.”

WrestleVotes later added:

“Regarding the recent CM Punk news: A source tells me the company is extremely happy with Punk’s attitude, commitment, drawing power (both TV numbers & social media views), and big merchandise sales. It’s safe to say they want to continue this momentum for as long as possible.”

Since his return, Punk suffered a torn triceps during his first televised match back at the Royal Rumble but has remained active on WWE programming.

He has been involved in a feud with Drew McIntyre, frequently interfering in McIntyre’s pursuit of the World Heavyweight Championship.

Punk is set to make his in-ring return at SummerSlam, facing McIntyre in a singles match with Seth Rollins serving as the special guest referee.
