The criminal case against Shawn Chan, the Canadian man accused of stalking WWE star Liv Morgan, has entered a period of procedural limbo as a federal court in Florida grapples with his mental competency.
Originally scheduled for early 2026, the trial has been delayed following a status report filed with the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. Chan is currently undergoing a mandatory psychological examination, a move that has paused his right to a speedy trial. The delay stems from a dispute over a last-minute insanity defense; while prosecutors argued the motion was filed too late, the court has deferred its decision until the evaluation is complete.
The case against Chan involves a calculated trip from Scarborough, Ontario, to Morgan’s Florida home in May 2025. According to federal documents:
– Chan flew to Orlando on May 26, the same day his passport was issued. He claimed to be staying at the WWE Performance Center, despite it having no guest housing.
– Four days later, Chan allegedly spent hours loitering at Morgan’s property. Surveillance footage captured him circling the house and entering the backyard.
– After failing to enter the front door, Chan sat on the porch and held an air pellet gun he found on the property. He eventually left a note before departing.

Chan left the following note at the scene:
“It’s me Shawn the guy you all hang out with on [gaming platform deleted] online. You’ve been trying to contact me, or should I say reach out to me when I’m absent from that game. So who’s the stalker huh?!
I NEVER said and did anything bad for over 10 years, yet you all dared hating me for no reason. I came here to pay just a friendly visit, nothing more. Yet, I’m the one who looks like a stalker thx to all of you.
And you all think I’m going to have empathy, sympathy and care about any of you anymore? I will start talking and doing whatever I want despite all your shoosh finger faces that you all make. Yea, I just wanted to let you know that I was here.”
Chan has been in federal custody since his arrest on June 3, 2025, after WWE security recognized him from home surveillance footage and alerted the FBI. He faces one count of interstate domestic violence, a charge that carries a potential five-year prison sentence.

While the prosecution has stated they only need three days to present their evidence, the defense has yet to provide a timeline. With the trial now pushed toward the court’s March session, the next steps depend entirely on the results of Chan’s mental health assessment and whether the judge will allow his late-stage insanity plea to move forward.
