Update On The Rock vs. Roman Reigns At WrestleMania 40

Roman Reigns vs The Rock WrestleMania 39 4 WrestleFeed App

The Rock appeared on The Pat McAfee Show recently and revealed that him facing Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 39 was a ‘lock’.

Rock said he wanted to do something unprecedented with The Tribal Chief, which they couldn’t figure out in time for WrestleMania Hollywood, so they decided not to do that match just for the sake of doing it.

The Great One is open to facing The Head of the Table at WrestleMania 40, given that the WWE writers find that ‘never done before’ unprecedented thing for this match.

In an update on this situation, Sports Illustrated reported the following regarding Rock vs. Reigns at WrestleMania in 2024:

“After speaking with multiple sources close to WWE, the decision about WrestleMania will not be The Rock’s to make, nor is the main event even a topic of substance. There are currently no plans for this to happen.

Even if it were offered, it would not be a certainty that (Dwayne) Johnson would even accept. He has multiple obligations, and if he is part of a movie that is filming, he simply would not be able to take the risk of wrestling.”

As we have reported before, Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes II for the Undisputed Title will be the main event of WrestleMania 40, which WWE teased this past Friday on SmackDown.

WrestleMania XL will take place on April 6 & 7, 2024, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. WWE sold over 90,000 tickets for this event on the very first day, breaking their all-time gate record of $21.5 million (that was set by WrestleMania 39).
