• Veteran AEW Personality Bashes DQ Finishes
On a recent episode of his weekly ‘What Happened When’ podcast, legendary Old School NWA/WWF/WCW commentator Tony Schiavone and his co-host Conrad Thompson spoke about matches that end with a disqualification.
They also talked about scenarios where sometimes such matches main event weekly television shows, where after the DQ a huge brawl follows and the show goes off the air, which is supposed to be a cliffhanger, that makes the fans tune in again for the next episode the following week.
Here’s what Schiavone said about this:
“That’s a storytelling device. You can still have a finish in your match and then move on with the storytelling device after the finish.
I never liked f*ck finish DQs. F*ck finish DQs is f*cking the fans. You don’t want to f*ck the fans. You can only f*ck them so many times.”
Tony Schiavone worked as a play-by-play commentator for Jim Crockett Promotions (1983-1989), the World Wrestling Federation (1989-1990) and Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling (1990-2001), before joining Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling in 2019.
