Did Paul Heyman Convince Brock Lesnar To Get His Survivor Series 2017 Opponent Changed?

During a recent edition of “The Brand” podcast, former WWF writer Vince Russo, WCW Veteran Disco Inferno and co-host Jeff Lane talked about Jinder Mahal losing the WWE Championship, possible reason behind the Title change & the new Survivor Series 2017 main event. Below are the highlights:

On Jinder Mahal losing the WWE Championship:

Disco: I still don’t know why they did that. Was it to play to the smart mark crowd? It’s not gonna happen overnight. Bruno Sammartino didn’t lose for eight years.

That’s bad for this product. They have a long-term storyline they’ve invested in and they just cut it off and hotshot it.

Russo: I have a tendency to believe him. I mean obviously he wasn’t hurt because he was in the match.

Disco: Not to mention that if he failed a wellness test, he would be suspended. So he’s not suspended so that did not happen.

Russo: He’s not hurt because he worked the match. He would not have been able to work the match if he was hurt. But I’m with Glenn. You invested six months. Do you know how much television time cost over a six-month period if you broke that down into dollars and cents of how much air time they spent on Jinder Mahal? I don’t get it. We don’t work there. I don’t understand. Maybe it’s going someplace, but my god bro a six-month investment to end like that. I don’t get it.

On the original and current Survivor Series 2017 main event:

Disco: I thought the Jinder versus Brock match is more compelling because people were talking about what’s gonna happen in that match because Jinder going to India, all these factors. But all this is with AJ now, it’s just like, what is it? Just because they think the quality the match is going to be better?

Russo: Remember I threw a fit the last time Heyman cut a promo on Jinder? Because he buried the guy. Listen, Paul Heyman knows how to put guys over. When Brock wrestled Reigns the first time, Paul Heyman put that over beautifully. He put Roman over beautifully. The way he did it – nobody had ever put Reigns over like that before.

He did the opposite with Jinder. He buried the guy. He cut his balls off. Never put him over. Never gave him credit for anything. Made the match mean nothing. And remember we said unless frickin’ Jinder beats Heyman, he’s dead because Paul just castrated him?

Now bro you have to ask yourself, was it Paul convincing Brock that a match against Jinder was gonna look bad, it wasn’t a money match, they needed a better match and then at that point is it Brock going to Vince McMahon?

I mean that happened with me. We had a WrestleMania booked. There was a three-way at WrestleMania 15. It was Rock, it was Austin and it was Mick and Shawn Michaels got in. Austin’s here, I am, and Shawn said that Mick really shouldn’t be a part of this and yada yada yada.

Next thing we know Mick was out of the match. So stuff like that happens all the time. So again, when you look at match quality and the way Heyman buried Jinder, you got to frickin’ ask yourself the question. Bro, these guys are marks for the marks. A lot of them are marks for the marks. So who knows.

Disco: Yeah, that’s a plausible explanation. Definitely a possibility.

Russo: I personally am NOT interested in AJ and Brock Lesnar. I’m not. I don’t buy it. I don’t buy it for a second.

Disco: I’ll tell you what, I was interested in AJ and Brock Lesnars if they had brought AJ into the WWE and you know that Phenomenal Forearm, if he would have like got out there, wrestled the guy and beat him in two minutes with that move.

That would have been a credible opponent for Brock Lesnar. Like wow this guy’s phenomenal. He just comes in, does all these crazy moves and beats a guy quick. You could have done that with AJ because he has a skill level to make you believe that….like he’s smaller than him but he’s got aerial skills and aerial attack that you believe could beat people.

Russo: This is where they don’t think things through. Chris Jericho is no longer under contract with the WWE. AJ Styles is about to go into one of the big four pay-per-views of the year against Brock Lesnar.

I can remember clearly….AJ came in, he was on a run…. he was on a run…. he was on a run. Guess who beat AJ? Chris Jericho. And I remember watching and saying – Oh, why is a man in his mid-40s beating AJ Styles?

Fast forward a year down the road, Jericho’s no longer with the company and AJ’s going in a match against Brock Lesnar. You see what I’m saying bro? All these things add up when you don’t plan these things out.

The guy is not even working for the company anymore and they sacrificed AJ Styles. That doesn’t make any sense.
