Mr. Kennedy shared insights into a significant production botch during his Last Ride Match with The Undertaker at Armageddon 2006 and Vince McMahon’s reaction to it.
Originally, the match featured a planned stunt involving a fall from a scaffolding. While producer Michael Hayes suggested Kennedy take the fall, Vince proposed The Undertaker do it instead, leading to tension and humor as Vince joked about doing the jump himself before ultimately deciding Kennedy would throw The Undertaker off the scaffolding.
To ensure safety, crash pads were hidden, but during the live broadcast, a camera mistakenly zoomed in on The Undertaker lying on the pads for too long, breaking the illusion.
Kennedy recounted how Vince was furious, yelling at the production team to change the camera angle.
Here’s what Kennedy said on Rewind Recap Relive:
“Michael Hayes was our producer, and it was Taker, and Michael Hayes standing by the entryway because there was this big scaffolding that connected over the walkway where you came out. Michael was like, ‘Do you think you could take a chokeslam off there?’ You know, we were figuring out what bump I could take that would be impressive.
I remember Vince came by, and Michael just said, ‘What do you think about a chokeslam off there?’ Vince stopped for a second, looked up, and goes, ‘It would be far more impressive if Taker went off there.’
Taker just looked at him like, ‘You motherf**ker.’ Vince said, ‘You want me to go up there? I’ll jump off there.’ Then he’s like, ‘No, I’m good’.
I remember looking over at him (after the spot took place at the PPV). They wanted to get the camera shot, and I heard Vince yell, ‘Goddammit, take a different angle!’
If you watch the tape back, the crane cam zoomed in and showed Taker basically lying on those mattresses for way too long. It was brutal. That’s exactly what you don’t want. But I could hear Vince yelling, ‘God, what are you doing? Take a different shot!’”
