Below are a couple of top news stories of the day, featuring Wade Barrett and Lex Luger.
• In 2010, Wade Barrett formed The Nexus with several former NXT stars, creating chaos in WWE and feuding with John Cena. The rivalry culminated at the TLC PPV that year, where Cena defeated Barrett and dropped over 20 steel chairs on him, leading to Barrett being ousted from the group. CM Punk then took over as the leader of The Nexus.
Barrett went on to form The Corre in January 2011 with former Nexus members Heath Slater, Justin Gabriel, and Ezekiel Jackson. The faction found some success, with Barrett winning the Intercontinental Championship and Slater and Gabriel capturing the Tag Team Titles. However, the group quickly dissolved after Jackson left in May 2011, and the faction disbanded the following month.
In a recent social media post for Barrett’s birthday, WWE mentioned him as the former leader of The Corre. Barrett humorously responded, stating there were “no leaders” in the group as they were all equals, joking that they were “equally crap”.
Here’s what he tweeted:
“FALSE. The Corre had no leader; it was made up of four equals.
(all equally crap if we’re being honest)”

• In the main event of SummerSlam 1993, Lex Luger defeated Yokozuna via count-out in a WWF World Heavyweight Championship match. Since Luger won via count-out, Yokozuna retain the WWF Championship. On his Lex Expressed podcast, Luger revealed his salary for this PPV match:
“Back then, I was newer to the company. I didn’t expect, like, a WrestleMania (payday), because that was the really big one. Now, SummerSlam is like number a strong number two. So I expected a decent payoff. I wasn’t disappointed, but I thought maybe, with not getting paid all summer, it would have been a little more than that.
I got, like, $50,000 or something, if I had to guess, right around there, I think. I was hoping for like $100,000. I was hoping, because I didn’t get paid all summer, I was hoping for like $100,000 at the time or something, but I got like $50,000. I think I had been hoping for a little bit more.
I didn’t get paid all summer. I got zero. I wasn’t working. You know how it was back then. I didn’t have a guaranteed contract like WCW. My contract wasn’t guaranteed. No play, no pay. At least they paid for my hotel.”
