• “We’ll Believe It When We See It” – Wrestlers Slam WWE’s Empty Promises
WWE’s plans for the NXT Europe brand are still in progress, but many questions remain about when and how it will fully launch. According to Fightful Select, a recent WWE tryout in the UK gave hopeful wrestlers a mixed message. While they were told that NXT Europe is “still happening,” there were no clear details about the timeline or scope of the project. The tryout led to some prospects being offered contracts, while others were encouraged to keep in touch with WWE. However, insiders say the event wasn’t directly connected to the rollout of the new European brand. This has caused uncertainty among talent and promoters alike.
A former NXT UK wrestler expressed frustration, pointing out that WWE has been giving the same vague reassurances about NXT Europe since the NXT UK brand closed. Another was more straightforward, saying they will “believe it when they see it.”
European indie promoters see WWE’s interest in NXT Europe as a possible strategic move, especially given AEW’s recent success in the region. AEW has held major shows at Wembley Stadium for two consecutive years and collaborated with NJPW on events like Forbidden Door in the UK. While some worry about WWE pulling talent away from the local independent scene, many believe the indie wrestling community can still grow and thrive, much like it did after NXT UK shut down and the pandemic slowed things down.
For wrestlers, NXT Europe represents a potential step up, particularly if it offers better pay and working conditions than the old NXT UK contracts. Those deals were often criticized for low pay, forcing many to take second jobs. French wrestlers, in particular, have voiced concerns that the local wrestling momentum they’ve built could suffer if too many talents are recruited by WWE.
• WWE Has Bigger Plans For SummerSlam Celebrity
Jelly Roll is stepping into the WWE spotlight once again, and this time, it might be more than just a cameo. The chart-topping artist is confirmed for the July 11 episode of Friday Night SmackDown in Tampa, Florida. But according to WrestleVotes, this appearance might be part of something larger. The outlet reports that WWE insiders expect it “to be the start of something more.” There’s also “anticipation the music superstar will make additional appearances in the near future.”
One clue fueling the speculation? His tour schedule. While Jelly Roll is currently on the road, the report pointed out that he has the first weekend of August off, the same weekend WWE’s SummerSlam is set to take place. That coincidence has fans wondering if the singer could be part of a big moment at WWE’s biggest event of the summer.
This wouldn’t be uncharted territory for him. At SummerSlam 2024, Jelly Roll got physical in the ring, delivering a chokeslam to Austin Theory. A longtime wrestling fan, he’s talked openly in interviews about wanting to do more inside the ring, especially after focusing on weight loss to make that dream a reality.
