• WrestleMania 39 Could Be Drew McIntyre’s Final WrestleMania
On Night 2 of WrestleMania 39 (aka WrestleMania Sunday), Gunther will defend the Intercontinental Championship against Drew McIntyre and Sheamus in a Triple Threat Match.
According to PWInsider, Drew’s contract with WWE isn’t up imminently, but it’s in the final year and both sides aren’t even close to agreeing to terms of a new deal.
This could mean that this Sunday could be McIntyre’s final WrestleMania, if WWE decides to not agree to give Drew whatever he wants.
McIntyre is an absolute workhorse. Not only did he carry the RAW brand as the WWE Champion during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, he has also worked while being hurt and ill in recent memory.
Not just that, he had neck issues in January 2022 and returned within a month.
McIntyre was extremely ill before an episode of SmackDown in March and originally wasn’t cleared to compete, but eventually was cleared by WWE’s medical team when he arrived to the arena. Here’s what PWInsider reported:
“McIntyre, who works all the Live Events, has received a lot of respect for how hard he has worked for the company, even when under the weather or working banged up over the last year. He’s very much a locker room leader in that regard.”
On last night’s WrestleMania SmackDown, McIntyre & Sheamus defeated Imperium (Ludwig Kaiser & Giovanni Vinci).
