• Wrestling World Reacts To Lanny Poffo’s Death

As we reported earlier today, Old School WWF Veteran ‘The Genius’ Lanny Poffo passed away at the age of 68.

He was the younger brother of WWF/WCW Legend “The Macho Man” Randy Savage and the son of Old School Wrestling promoter Angelo Poffo.

Lanny was overall a genuinely well liked guy among pro-wrestling locker rooms all over the world, which is why many of his former co-workers are remembering him and paying tribute on social media today.

Here are some of their tribute posts …

‘Hacksaw’ Jim Duggan (WWF):

“With a very, very heavy heart, I’ve been asked to let everyone know about the passing of our friend and colleague Lanny Poffo, The Genius.

RIP Lanny”

Tommy Dreamer (ECW/WWF):

“It has been reported that Lanny Poffo has passed away

I always enjoyed his work in ring and that he always had a poem for us all #TheGenius”

Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts (WWF):

“RIP Lanny”

Ricky Morton (NWA):

“Rest in paradise, Lanny Poffo. So many great memories. We lost a genius today.

The wrestling world mourns.”

X-Pac / The 1-2-3 Kid (WWF):

“Rest in Peace my friend.”

Dutch Mantell / Uncle Zebekiah (WCW/WWF):

“Just heard that Lanny Poffo passed away suddenly this morning. No cause was given. I’ve known Lanny/Randy/Angelo from my 1st year in the business. Great guys, great family. RIP Genius.”

Eric Bischoff (WCW):

“Very sad to hear of Lanny’s passing. The last time we were together I thoroughly enjoyed several hours of great conversation. Lanny was a very interesting and intelligent man, and his love and loyalty to his family was so much a part of who he was. RIP Lanny.”

Virgil (WWF):

“Lanny Poffo. The genius. Man. I am so sorry brother. Love you and Randy more than you ever will know. RIP”

The Brooklyn Brawler (WWF):

“Rest in peace my friend”

The Iron Sheik (WWF, posted by his social media manager):

“LANNY POFFO MY BROTHER. I LOVE YOU FOREVER. GIVE NIKOLAI, RANDY AND ELIZABETH HUG FOR ME”

Just Joe (WWF):

“Absolutely shocked and saddened to read that Lanny Poffo has passed away.

One of the nicest and most genuine people in the business.

The night before I went in for my first hip replacement surgery, he phoned me from his home in Equador to wish me well and a speedy recovery.

For all of the people I’ve tried to help in this job, Lanny was the ONLY one who called and I’ll never forget him for that simple act of kindness.

Though mostly overshined by the phenomenal career of his brother (and I count myself among the biggest ‘macho marks’ ever), I count Lanny up there as a privilege to have known in this job and to call my friend.

I wish I had a fitting poem in tribute to him and his memory, but I wouldn’t step on his gimmick.

Thank you so much for your friendship, Lanny. Rest well, you’ve earned it.

RIP to THE GENIUS, LANNY POFFO.

A genuine good soul.”

Bobby Fulton (NWA):

“I’m very sorry to hear the passing of Lanny Poffo! Great guy and friend! Prayers for his family, friends and fans!”

The Blue Meanie (ECW):

“Awww man. What a great guy! I had the pleasure of doing a movie with Lanny called ‘Curse Of The Wolf’ and he was such a pleasure to be around. Rest In Peace Lanny Poffo!!”

Frankie Kazarian (TNA):

“RIP Lanny Poffo. Godspeed my friend.”

Joel Gertner (ECW):

“Hearing news about the passing of Lanny Poffo; I’m very hopeful it isn’t true.”
