WWE has reportedly become aware of concerns regarding the lack of black male wrestlers being featured on pay-per-views and premium live events.
Sean Ross Sapp highlighted this issue on the Fightful Select Weekly Podcast, stating:
“WWE has been made aware of it. It’s a thing that I don’t think that like came to mind necessarily. I’ve never heard anyone say, ‘Yes this was intentional’ or anything like that. I did hear people saying, ‘Well that’s obviously something that will be addressed now.’ But we’ll see how it’s addressed. It’s more about black male single talent getting featured.”
The last time a black male wrestler won a singles match at a WWE pay-per-view was Bobby Lashley’s disqualification victory over Brock Lesnar at Elimination Chamber 2023.
A pinfall or submission victory hasn’t been seen since Lashley defeated Austin Theory at SummerSlam 2022.
The upcoming Bad Blood 2024 will mark the third consecutive WWE pay-per-view without a black male talent on the card.
Swerve Strickland, a former AEW World Champion, also expressed criticism regarding WWE’s response to his contract, saying:
“They only complain when a Black person gets paid, I will say that. We shake the foundation of things like that… If I’m not your concern then don’t worry about it.
Don’t worry about my pockets and our money. We’re good.”
