8. Reason Behind Intercontinental Title Change
As seen on last week’s episode of SmackDown Live, Dean Ambrose defeated The Miz to capture the Intercontinental Title. Ambrose is now a two time Intercontinental Champion.
The reason behind WWE putting the Title on Ambrose is that WWE wants to put Baron Corbin into the Intercontinental Title picture heading into the WrestleMania 33 season.
Current plan is for Ambrose to defend the Intercontinental Title against “The Lone Wolf” Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 33. So the Title switch was made to put the Title on a babyface, so he could now feud with Corbin (who is a heel).
Speaking of the Intercontinental Title, it has been defended in a Ladder match for the past two years at WrestleMania, but there’s speculation that this year’s WrestleMania will feature a Ladder match for the WWE Cruiserweight Title (instead of the Intercontinental Title).
