• WWE Hall Of Famer Never Wants To Talk About The Montreal Screwjob Again
When Bret Hart agreed to Eric Bischoff’s offer in 1997 to jump ship to WCW, he was still the reigning and defending WWF World Heavyweight Champion and didn’t want to drop the title to ‘The Heart Break Kid’ Shawn Michaels, which resulted in ‘The Montreal Screwjob’.
The infamous Montreal Screwjob incident took place on November 9th 1997 at the Molson Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada at the end of the main event of the WWF Survivor Series 1997 pay-per-view.
Michaels put Hart in a Sharpshooter, Bret’s own finisher, and referee Earl Hebner called for the bell, pretending that Bret had submitted, which wasn’t the case though.
It was Vince McMahon himself, who screwed Hart to avoid the possibility of The Hitman leaving for Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling as the reigning WWF Champion.
On an episode of his weekly ‘Grilling JR’ podcast, legendary WWF/WWE play-by-play commentator Jim Ross made it clear that he does not want to talk about that incident ever again.
Here’s what J.R. said about the Montreal Screwjob:
“I hated that son of a b*tch. If we never talk about that again ever in my life, I’ll be very content. Having to relive it again and again, and then Conrad and I, he showed some interviews this time.
Me interviewing Vince, and then he said ‘Bret screwed Bret’. Well, what were you thinking when you said that?”
