On August 27th 2023, 3 weeks after WWE’s annual SummerSlam premium-live-event, All Elite Wrestling is going to hold their AEW All In 2023 PPV at the Wembley Stadium in England, UK, Europe.
The stadium has a capacity of 90,000 fans for a pro-wrestling show and Tony Khan has revealed that they have sold 43,000 tickets so far.
On the latest episode of his weekly ’83 Weeks’ podcast, WCW Legend Eric Bischoff stated that he doesn’t feel like the company would need to bring in a big name like WCW Legend Bill Goldberg, WWE Veteran CM Punk or former WWE Women’s Champion Sasha Banks (Mercedes Mone) for the event, considering that they most likely will sell out anyway.
Most UK fans are known to be a lot less critical of the modern day wrestling product and are famous for going to the arena to see such events live and in person, just to have a good time, regardless which promotion it is.
Here’s what the 2021 WWE Hall of Famer said:
“I’m not so sure that I would want to bring in a Mercedes Mone (Sasha Banks) or even a Goldberg for a one-off like this.
I don’t know that I would do that, and I don’t think they’re going to need it, quite honestly if they have 55,000 people that have already signed up for pre-sales.
I wouldn’t want the perception, or in this case, maybe the reality, of having to rely on somebody who’s not a part of my company to help sell that house.
I said this last week, I wouldn’t even want Punk on the card.
If I’m Tony Khan, I want to have done it without someone like CM Punk or certainly without someone like a Bill Goldberg or Mercedes.”
On August 29th 1992, the World Wrestling Federation sold out the Wembley Stadium with more than 80,355 fans for their SummerSlam ’92 pay-per-view, that was headlined by the Intercontinental Championship match between the champion Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart and the challenger, his real life brother-in-law ‘The British Bulldog’ Davey Boy Smith.
