In a shocking turn of events, WWE finds itself embroiled in controversy as it attempts to distance itself from its former CEO and Chairman, Vince McMahon. Last Friday, McMahon resigned from all his roles within TKO, including TKO Executive Chairman and on the TKO Board of Directors. This move comes in the wake of a bombshell lawsuit that alleges McMahon’s involvement in a $ex trafficking and abuse scandal concerning a former WWE employee, Janel Grant.
Janel Grant, the former WWE employee at the center of the lawsuit, accuses McMahon of coercing her into engaging in $exual activities with him and other men. Moreover, she claims that McMahon allegedly shared explicit photos of her with various individuals both inside and outside of the company. The serious nature of these allegations has prompted WWE to take swift action in distancing itself from McMahon.
Unlike the last time Vince McMahon was removed from WWE due to the infamous hush money scandal, the company’s response this time has been notably different. McMahon was not given a send-off or mentioned at all over the weekend, a stark contrast to the previous occasion when Stephanie McMahon led a “Thank you, Vince” chant. This intentional silence and lack of acknowledgment signal WWE’s efforts to disassociate itself from its former leader amidst the scandal.
Here’s what the Wrestling Observer reported:
“It’s funny because the bad news, does short-term help the ratings? You know, I mean, we’ve seen that before, at least when it comes to Vince McMahon bad news. You know, I mean, other bad news may not, but when it comes to Vince McMahon, it does, and it is very interesting. And I’m not surprised, and I don’t think anyone should be that when you compare and contrast the first time Vince quit.
The first time Vince quit, they built the whole show around him. You know they had Stephanie come out there the big goodbye the whole bit. And this guy’s been erased. I mean, Paul Levesque never mentioned his name at the press conference.
On the Friday SmackDown show, they never mentioned his name. I don’t think that anyone’s going to mention his name on any shows, maybe ever again, at least not, you know, for the foreseeable future. I mean, it is probably for all good reasons.
I don’t see any point in ever mentioning his name, other than it’s in a like a historical piece because, unfortunately, when it comes to the history of WWE, you can’t tell the history of WWE up until the last month or two and do a fair job without mentioning Vince McMahon because his fingerprints are everywhere. And he’s the key guy in history.”
As we reported before, McMahon’s WWE.com profile was deleted as well.
