During an interview with WrestleSphere, Kevin Owens revealed that WWE Officials “heavily discussed” the idea of him facing The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32 in 2016.

Here’s what the former Universal Champion said:

“I know it was on the table and it was heavily discussed and it would have been amazing. My first WrestleMania, to be in there with The Undertaker, would have been sweet.

I think things just shifted and that was the year that Shane McMahon returned.

Obviously at the time, my standing in the company compared to Shane McMahon coming back after all those years, the thought was probably ‘Shane McMahon versus The Undertaker is a huge match’.”

It should be noted that the original plan for WrestleMania 32 was The Undertaker vs. John Cena, but Cena got injured. Despite the injury, Cena did manage to appear at the event to save The Rock from The Wyatt Family.

Undertaker went on to face Shane O’Mac inside Hell in a Cell and won, thus taking his WrestleMania record to 23-1.

Shane’s return was a financial success, as it resulted in the WWE Network subscriptions increasing big time.

Kevin Owens was the Intercontinental Champion heading into WrestleMania 32 and lost his Title in a 7-man Ladder Match, which was won by Zack Ryder.
