5. Was Trish Status The Original Choice For Asuka’s Opponent At NXT Takeover: Toronto?
As we all know, former WWE Women’s Champion Mickie James will return at NXT Takeover: Toronto to challenge Asuka for the NXT Women’s Championship.
There were rumors going on that former 7 time Women’s Champion & WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus was the original choice for Asuka’s opponent, but then news got out that Trish is pregnant and WWE chose Mickie to be Asuka’s opponent.
During NXT Takeover Media conference call, Triple H denied those reports and noted that he wanted Mickie at Takeover: Toronto from the get-go:
I’ve seen the rumors out there about other people being attempted to be grabbed for Mickie’s spot. For next week’s Takeover, I wanted more time for the other women in NXT to grow as performers, so I went with Mickie James, she was very skilled and can handle it. I felt like Mickie and Asuka would tear it up. I want to reinforce that Mickie was not the consolation prize for us in anyway. She is the person that we went at.
