4. Damien Sandow Talks About Wanting To Make A Parody of Wrestlers From 1980s
During a recent appearance on Chris Jericho’s “Talk Is Jericho” podcast, former WWE Superstar Damien Sandow talks about wanting to take time off from WWE before his release, plan of doing a parody of wrestlers from 1980s with Curtis Axel & more. Below are the highlights:
On thinking about taking time off from WWE right before he was released from the company:
“It was very, very mutual because I had actually thought about ‘what if I was to take some time off anyway?’ and that was something I had brought up to them about a month ago to explore that because, again, just there are so many different directions and so many different cogs in the wheel and elements and facets in the WWE that a lot of people, even myself included who have been with them for a number of years, we don’t understand why things are the way they are. But, as a performer, look, all you can do is focus on you, do the best you can with everything, whether you’re dressed as an astronaut, or Daniel Boone, or God knows what else I dressed up as. I even forgot. But you do that, you try to hit a grand slam every time, and you go on.”
On wanting to do a parody of wrestlers from 1980s along with Curtis Axel:
“It was the 80s, a parody of the decade of the 80s in professional wrestling. And, yeah, we were going to go full on Zubaz and fanny pack. There was talk of growing mullets and doing the whole deal. Yeah, the whole deal. Again, we were talking about variations of outfits. Needless to say there was a lot of lime green and zebra print. We were thinking about being called The Brothers, but that never came to fruition. But, again, I think fans would have gotten it and it would have been fun.”
That obviously didn’t happen due to the Hulk Hogan controversy from last year.
