The Universal Championship has officially been retired by WWE, marking the end of an era for one of the company’s top World Titles in recent history.

As confirmed by WWE.com, the championship—which was first introduced in 2016—is now listed as retired on the official website.

WWE Officially Retires The Universal Championship

The Universal Title debuted at SummerSlam 2016, where Finn Bálor became the inaugural champion. However, Bálor was forced to relinquish the title just one day later after suffering an injury during the match.

Initially exclusive to RAW, the championship was moved to SmackDown in 2019 as part of the WWE Draft. It was later unified with the WWE Championship by Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 38 in 2022, creating what is now known as the Undisputed WWE Championship.

The unified title is currently held by 17-time World Champion John Cena.

• Cathy Kelley Is Training For A New Role In WWE

WWE Backstage Interviewer Cathy Kelley has been spending time at the Performance Center recently, where she’s been actively participating in both in-ring training and promo classes.

According to a report from PWInsider, Kelley has been involved in this type of training “for some time now.”

While there’s no official confirmation on her next move, the current thinking behind the scenes is that she could potentially be used in an on-screen manager role.

As PWInsider noted, this would depend on “whether the company goes in that direction.”

• Released WWE Star Joins OnlyFans

Former WWE Superstar Blair Davenport aka Bea Priestley is preparing to launch an OnlyFans account just months after being released from WWE.

Blair revealed on Twitter that her OnlyFans will be going live on May 8.

Her departure from WWE came in February 2025. Her final in-ring appearance for the company took place in November 2024 as part of the Women’s U.S. Title Tournament.

While she didn’t capture a championship during her WWE tenure, she did achieve a major milestone by winning the NXT Women’s Iron Survivor Challenge in 2023.

Before joining WWE, Blair built a strong reputation on the international wrestling scene. She is a former World of STARDOM Champion, Artist of STARDOM Champion, and Goddesses of STARDOM Champion.
